What is Gnosticism/Nazarenism? |
| |
| |
Gnosticism as most commonly understood today is a powerful movement and series of philosophy schools relating to the teachings of Jesus the Nazarene (Truth-Seeker) as Saviour from the start of the 2nd Century CE until the start of the 3rd Century CE. |
| |
Its principle leader was a famous scholar and teacher by the name of Valentinus and he was responsible for editing the sacred gnostic set of texts and even writing at least one of them as found in a copy of gnostic sacred texts via the Nag Hammadi Scrolls. |
| |
Gnosticism is preceded by Nazaren(ism) and is often deliberately confused to make the association between the two difficult to understand. |
| |
Nazaren(ism) claimed itself to be the true teachings of Jesus Christ with the teachings of Paul of Tarsus and the Sadducee High Priests being the creators of Christianity. |
| |
Both Gnosticism and Nazaren(ism) claim Jesus to be the prime architect for the complex and controversial structure of both movements which basically focus on a history of the battle between good and evil evidenced externally through the origin of humanity, the behaviour of people claiming to be good but fundamentally evil and an internal battle between a true soul and a counterfeit soul. |
| |
This inner duality- a battle of good soul and bad soul within the human mind itself is one of the most difficult ideas to fathom and frequently misquoted and misrepresented. |
| |
Valentinus was helped in his early years by reputedly the Chief Librarian of Alexandria Glaucias and his son Basilides who took an interest in the scriptures in the possession of Valentinus. |
| |
By the time of the death of Valentinus, he had schooled Emperors, Roman nobles and taught great students including Ptolemaeus (Ptolemy) of Egypt, Theodotus, Florinus, Axionicus of Antioch and Caedidus of Athens, Heracleon and Kolorbasos to name a few. |
| |
During the time of the ascendency of Gnosticism across the Roman Empire, its evil twin Christianity was considered a banned religion punishable by death. A historic fact that remains one of the greatest anomolies of history on account of the claims of christian leaders to represent the true religion of Jesus and Gnosticism being "false". |
| |
Since the beginning, Gnosticism has been the primary enemy of Christianity and Christian leaders over centuries have single mindedly sought to eliminate all manner of Gnostic sects, no matter how barbaric their orders. |
| |
Again, no proper account has even been given how christianity, supposedly a religion of love has been so obsessed in hunting down and killing Gnostics who by all remaining historic evidence sought to live peaceful and non-intrusive lives. |
| |
On account of the centuries of murder, no organized Gnostic religion survived and all modern movements are based on "revivalists" seeking to interpret the Nag Hammadi information and other information to create new movements. However, the modern movement only shares common name. |
