Chapter 28 |
| |
1. |
In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, some of the disciplies had watched upon Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of Jesus, with the new guard unto the hidden sepulchre.
2. |
And, behold, they watched in hiding upon the stone been unsealed from the entrance to the sepulchre by the soldiers.
3. |
And a loud cry rang out from Mary Magdalene as she came out of the tomb in loud cries and said: they have taken my Lord;
4. |
And for fear of being found, the disciples did hide as silent.
5. |
And Mary, the mother of Jesus embraced her away from the soldiers, near the hidden disciplies and said: Do not cry Mary, for behold he is risen. Come with me and I shall show you where the Rabbi does lay.
6. |
But Mary Magdalene still did not understand, for she had also heard the prophecy that he shall die and in three days rise again. So Mary held her again and said: He is not dead: for he is risen, as her face brightened as the sun.
7. |
Now all this time, the disciplies had seen the empty sepulchre and heard both women speaking of the risen Lord as foretold.
8. |
And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring the other disciples word.
9. |
And it came to pass that the disciplies did speak to many others of the fulfilment of the prophecy that Jesus had died and risen from the dead and so putting their lives at risk from stoning for blasphemy, as was the law in those days.
10. |
And even when it came to pass that Jesus came to them, they did not believe he lived and were afraid saying: He is a ghost come to test us, Lo! we are cursed; Even when some such as Thomas had touched him and felt his flesh, he did not believe and so they continued to spread the word of his rising from the dead.
11. |
Now the fame of the miracle of Jesus quickly spread and some of spies that had been watching the brethren of Jesus and his mother Mary and came unto Jerusalem before the chief priests and sanhedrin to tell of all the things that were being said.
12. |
And when they were assembled with the elders, they heard from the guards of the tomb who had been paid for their voice and they too believed the prophecy.
13. |
And when the chief priest Caiaphas heard the soldiers repeat the prophecy as true, he rent his robes upon the ground crying: My God, what have I done. My anger has destroyed us! Days later, he relinquished his position, a broken man.
14. |
And word of the rumours had also reached the governor's ears, and he called upon Joseph of Arimethea saying: Men shall kill for ideas such as these; It is no longer safe for thee in Judea. Go and may these papers of safe passage grant peace for my soul. And before the year had ended, the Pilate was also exiled for his part in these events.
15. |
So Joseph took the papers prepared by Pilate and returned to Mary and Mary Magdalene who had been hiding with the Lord as he recovered near the sacred mountain of Galilee.
16. |
So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day. Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
17. |
And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
18. |
And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19. |
Go you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit:
20. |
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
