| The Essenes operated on a solar system of 364 days, compared to the 354 lunar calendar of the Jews at the time. | ||
| They created a year consisted of fifty-two weeks, divided into four seasons of thirteen weeks each, with festivals consistently falling on the same days of the week. | ||
| The Essenes at Qumran were also responsible for setting our calendars at the year "0" upon the birth of John the Baptist. | ||
