Chapter 13 |
| |
1. |
Anath goes now to face Mavet, the Darling of El, the Hero.
2. |
As with the heart of a cow toward her calf,
3. |
As with the heart of an ete toward her lamb,
4. |
So is the heart of Anath toward Baal.
5. |
She seizes Mavet, in ripping His garment.
6. |
She closes in on Him, in tearing His clothes.
7. |
She lifts Her voice And shouts: "Come, Mavet, yield My brother!" |
8. |
And the God Mavet replies: "What does Thou ask, O Virgin Anath?
9. |
I was going, And roaming every mountain to the midst of the earth, Every hill to the midst of the fields.
10. |
A soul was missing among men, A soul of the multitudes of the earth.
11. |
I arrived at the goodness of the land of Debar, The beauty of the fields of Shechelmemet.
12. |
I met Aliyan Baal; |
13. |
I made Him like a lamb in My mouth.
14. |
Like a kid in My jaws was He crushed."
15. |
The Torch of the Gods, Shapash, glows, The heavens stop on account of the God Mavet.
16. |
A day, two days pass.
17. |
From days to months.
18. |
The maiden Anath meets Him.
19. |
As with the heart of a cow toward her calf,
20. |
As with the heart of an ewe toward her lamb, So is the heart of Anath toward Baal.
21. |
She siezes the God Mavet.
22. |
With a sword She cleaves Him,
23. |
With a pitchfork She winnows Him,
24. |
With a fire She burns Him,
25. |
In the millstones She grinds Him,
26. |
In the fields She plants Him,
27. |
So that the birds do not eat His flesh,
28. |
Nor the fowl destroy His portion.
29. |
Flesh calls to flesh. |
