Amorites-Once the Most powerful, strongest, and eminent of the Canaanite tribes. Descendents from the great city of Mari, took control of Ebla 200 yrs after its destruction in 2240 BCE by Naram-Sin. Smaller city prospered as Amorites (1800-1600 BCE) . "Elbaite" from which hebrew was developed. |

Arkites - Dwelt north of Phoenicia near Caesarea and settled along the Mediterranean coast west of the Lebanon Mountains. |

Arvadites - Arvad is a small island off Tortosa. It's about three miles from the Phoenician coast. |

Girgashites - Driven out of Canaan, it is traditionally held that they fled to Africa. |

Hamathites |

Hittites - Inhabited the mountains of Judah near Hebron. |

Hivites - Were located around Herman and Lebanon. Hivite means "midlander". |

Israelites-Founders of the great port city of Ugarit (pre 3,000-1230 BCE). Long time competitors with the Amorites. Created the Ugarit alphabet, then copied and modified by the Phoenicians. Ugarit formed an alliance upon the forced exile of Akhenaten which enabled the Israelites to gain significant territory until the false Pharoahs and Egyptians intervened and destroyed the city because of them making Akhenaten their leader. |

Jebusites-Built and inhabited the city of Jebus - former name of Jerusalem. |

Perizzites-Later to be known as the Philistines. |

Sinites-Probably a deliberate description of the Moabite tribe based on their claims of "godless" behaviour. |

Zemarites-Zemaraim is a town four miles north of Jericho. Zemarite means "tyrant, rebel".
