Chapter 2 |
| |
1. |
Then Daniel, the Healer's man, |
2. |
the Hero, the man of the god of Harnam,
3. |
made an offering for the gods to eat,
4. |
made an offering for the holy ones to drink.
5. |
Then he climbed onto his mat and lay down,
6. |
onto his pallet, where he spent the night.
7. |
One day had ended, and on the second
8. |
Daniel made an offering to the gods,
9. |
an offering for the gods to eat,
10. |
an offering for the holy ones to drink.
11. |
Three days had ended, and on the fourth
12. |
Daniel made an offering to the gods,
13. |
an offering for the gods to eat,
14. |
an offering for the holy ones to drink.
15. |
Five days had ended, and on the sixth
16. |
Daniel made an offering to the gods,
17. |
an offering for the gods to eat,
18. |
an offering for the holy ones to drink.
19. |
Daniel climbed onto his mat,
20. |
he climbed onto his mat and lay down,
21. |
onto his pallet, where he spent the night.
22. |
Then, on the seventh day,
23. |
Baal approached the Assembly with his plea: "Daniel, the Healer's man, is unhappy;
24. |
the Hero, the man of the god of Harnam, sighs:
25. |
he has no son, but his brothers do,no heir, like his cousins;
26. |
unlike his brothers, he has no son,nor an heir, like his cousins. |
27. |
Yet he has made an offering for the gods to eat,
28. |
an offering for the holy ones to drink.
29. |
So, my father, El the Bull, won't you bless him?
30. |
Creator of All, won't you show him your favor?
31. |
Let him have a son in his house,
32. |
a descendant inside his palace,
33. |
to set up a stele for his divine ancestor,
34. |
a family shrine in the sanctuary;
35. |
to free his spirit from the earth,
36. |
guard his footsteps from the Slime;
37. |
to crush those who rebel against him,
38. |
drive off his oppressors;
39. |
to hold his hand when he is drunk,
40. |
support him when he is full of wine;
41. |
to eat his offering in the temple of Baal,
42. |
his portion in the temple of El;
43. |
to patch his roof when it leaks,
44. |
wash his clothes when they are dirty."
45. |
El took care of his servant,
46. |
he blessed Daniel, the Healer's man,
47. |
he showed favor to the Hero, the man of the god of Harnam:
48. |
"Let the passion of Daniel, the Healer's man, revive,
49. |
the desire of the Hero, the man of the god of Harnam.
50. |
Let him go up to his bed:
51. |
when he kisses his wife she'll become pregnant;
52. |
when he embraces her she'll conceive:
53. |
she will become pregnant, she will give birth, she will conceive;
54. |
there will be a son in his house,
55. |
an heir inside his palace,
56. |
to set up a stele for his divine ancestor,
57. |
a family shrine in the sanctuary;
58. |
to free his spirit from the earth,
59. |
guard his footsteps from the Slime;
60. |
to crush those who rebel against him,
61. |
drive off his oppressors. . ."
62. |
". . . a family shrine in the sanctuary;
63. |
to free your spirit from the earth,
64. |
guard your footsteps from the Slime;
65. |
to crush those who rebel against you,
66. |
drive off your oppressors;
67. |
to eat your offering in the temple of Baal,
68. |
your portion in the temple of El;
69. |
to hold your hand when you are drunk,
70. |
support you when you are full of wine;
71. |
to patch your roof when it leaks,
72. |
wash your clothes when they are dirty."
73. |
Daniel's face was glad,
74. |
and above his brow shone.
75. |
He opened his mouth and laughed,
76. |
put his feet on a stool,
77. |
raised his voice and shouted:"Now I can sit back and relax;
78. |
my heart inside me can relax;
79. |
for a son will be born to me, like my brothers,
80. |
an heir, like my cousins,
81. |
who will set up a stele for my divine ancestor,
82. |
a family shrine in the sanctuary;
83. |
who will free my spirit from the earth,
84. |
guard my footsteps from the Slime;
85. |
who will crush those who rebel against me,
86. |
drive off my oppressors;
87. |
who will hold my hand when I am drunk,
88. |
support me when I am full of wine; |
89. |
who will eat my offering in the temple of Baal,
90. |
my portion in the temple of El;
91. |
who will patch my roof when it leaks,
92. |
wash my clothes when they are dirty."
93. |
Daniel arrived at his house,
94. |
Daniel reached his palace.
95. |
T'he Wise Women entered his house,
96. |
the Singers, the Swallowers.
97. |
Then Daniel, the Healer's man,
98. |
the Hero, the man of the god of Harnam,
99. |
slaughtered an ox for the Wise Women,
100. |
he gave food to the Wise Women,
101. |
drink to the Singers, the Swallowers.
102. |
One day had ended, and on the second
103. |
he gave food to the Wise Women,
104. |
drink to the Singers, the Swallowers.
105. |
Three days had ended, and on the fourth
106. |
he gave food to the Wise Women,
107. |
drink to the Singers, the Swallowers.
108. |
Five days had ended, and on the sixth
109. |
he gave food to the Wise Women,
110. |
drink to the Singers, the Swallowers.
111. |
Then, on the seventh day,
112. |
the Wise Women left his house,
113. |
the Singers, the Swallowers . . .
114. |
. . . the pleasures of bed,
115. |
. . . the delights of bed . . . |
116. |
Daniel sat and counted the months. |
